Current Practice of Surgical Site Infection Prevention in UK Vascular Surgery

The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines a Surgical Site Infection (SSI) as an infection within 30 days of an operation or up to 90 days if an implant is left in place and the infection is related to an operative procedure.

Surgical site infection (SSI) results in significant financial burden on the NHS and has a vast impact on patient's quality of life. SSI rates vary considerably in procedure and by NHS trust.
