Thank you for your interest in helping with my study. The purpose of this information sheet is to provide you with details about what you can expect if you participate.
This study is conducted by Lauren Winter (lauren.winter@york.ac.uk), a PhD student at the University of York. Lauren is currently looking at player experiences when playing multiplayer games. If you have any queries or would like to discuss the study further, please email Lauren.
This research is being supervised by Professor Paul Cairns and has been approved by the University of York Physical Sciences Ethics Committee. Lauren’s PhD is being funded by the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Intelligent Games and Games Intelligence.
What will this study involve?
The study will involve answering some questions in a survey. You will be asked some information about yourself, including your gender, age, and occupation, to ensure that a range of people have taken part, and your gaming habits. You will also be asked to give your consent to take part in the study. You do not have to give your consent and the study will stop if you do not consent. You can stop participation at any time during the study by closing the survey. The survey is expected to take around 30 minutes to complete.
Do I have to take part?
Taking part in this study is entirely voluntary. You do not have to take part, and you can stop at any time after the study has started without giving a reason.
If you decide after the study has finished you wish to withdraw, please email Lauren at the email address provided in the first section of this document, letting them know the code that you will provide at the end of this section.
Will I get paid?
As a thank you for taking part in the study, you will be able to enter a prize draw to win a £20 Steam voucher. There are 10 vouchers available.
You are still eligible for this prize even if you withdraw. Please note that after 2 weeks from your participation in the study, it will not be possible for you to withdraw as data analysis will have taken place.
If you choose to receive the voucher, details of this payment will be recorded and kept by the Department of Computer Science and may be shared in case of an audit by HMRC.
