Consultation on a CCAC/FAO ‘Agriculture and Food’ Assessment
Introduction
The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) are conducting an Agriculture and Food Assessment to identify effective measures, policies and actions that can reduce emissions of Short-Lived Climate Pollutants and Greenhouse Gases. This knowledge will be used to develop a roadmap for implementation by 2050 that will reduce emissions from the agriculture and food system in line with the Global Methane Pledge and 1.5°C climate targets whilst also supporting progress on other development indicators (e.g. SDG2). The report will be presented at COP30 in Brazil in 2025.
Approach
To help develop future ‘emission pathway’ scenarios the Agriculture and Food Assessment uses the ADOPT model to estimate i) the peak adoption rate and ii) the time to peak adoption rates of > 100 mitigation measures identified in the literature. These estimates are based on the characteristics of the farming population implementing the measures and the measures themselves.
The Stockholm Environmental Institute (SEI) has applied the ADOPT model in four world regions: i) North America and Europe, ii) Africa, iii) Asia and iv) Latin America using data available at the global level to characterise the likely response of small family/smallholder and large family/commercial farms to adopting measures.
Consultation
To help ensure the data used in the ADOPT model reflect the experience of practitioners working across the globe, we are conducting this survey to ask participants from each of our identified global regions to provide answers to a selection of the ADOPT questions for a subset of six mitigation measures considered by SEI. Information from the survey will be used to adjust SEI's characterisation of the farming population and measures to obtain more accurate predictions of peak adoption rate and time to peak adoption by region.
What we would like you to do
We would like you to complete the following survey which has both tick boxes and long answer questions. At the start you will be asked if you agree to take part and what region you represent. Please answer the questions as best you can, but if you cannot answer you can skip the question. If you decide you no longer wish to participate please close your browser window. The survey is completely anonymous, so we will not be able to identify your answers once you have pressed submit. Your data will be kept securely on University of York servers. We will use it to inform the model and in subsequent research outputs. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. You must be over the age of 18 to take part.
Many thanks for completing this survey. If you have any questions please contact the Principal Investigator Professor Kevin Hicks: kevin.hicks@york.ac.uk
