Thank you for your interest in taking part in this research study. This information sheet provides details about the research, what it will involve, what participating would mean for you and how we will use the information you provide. Purpose of the research
The purpose of this study is to explore players’ agency experience while playing different kinds of video games.
Your participation
You are invited to participate because you have experience in playing video games.
You need to be over the age of 18 to participate in this study.
What is involved in this study?
This is an online questionnaire study, so you will be asked to complete a questionnaire about your gaming experiences, followed by the demographics questions. In this questionnaire, you will be asked to respond based on your most recent gaming experiences, or gaming experiences that stand out to you. The questionnaire will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
Do I Have to Take Part?
Your participation is completely voluntary. You can withdraw from the study at any point during the process without giving any reasons and without any negative consequences. If you do decide to take part, you may withdraw at any point for any reason before submitting your answers by pressing the ‘Exit’ button/ closing the browser. Your data would then not be used in the analysis.
What will happen to your information?
The data collected from the study will be anonymous and your IP address will not be stored. You will not be able to be identified or be identifiable in any reports on publications. The responses you provide will be stored in a password-protected electronic file on University of York secure repositories or devices. The investigator and her supervisors will have access to the data collected (relevant to the research) and the data will be managed by the investigator. However, anonymised research data may be shared with external parties for academic purposes.
Data will be treated carefully by the investigators in strict compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. In accordance with the relevant regulations, the University of York will be the ‘data controller’.Personal data collected will be conducted under Article 6(1) (e) of the GDRP. Research data will be retained in accordance with University policy (the default retention period for research data is 10 years from the date of the last request for access).
