Dear Sir/Madam, I, Niamh Burrows, am currently carrying out a research project on the effect of personality on experiences throughout your/your childs time in education in relation to your/their personality.

Before agreeing to take part, please read the following information carefully and let me know if anything is unclear or you would like further information. Please also read the information about GDPR that can be accessed by the link below: https://www.york.ac.uk/education/research/gdpr_information/

This study is a part of my undergraduate degree programme, BSc Psychology in Education. It is designed to find whether experiences with dyslexia can affect experiences in school, from both an individual and parents perspective.

As a participant, you would be asked to complete a questionnaire, lasting roughly 20 minutes. The questionnaire is online and can therefore be completed at any point before the cut off date - 1st April 2025 - via the link you will have found on a poster or social media. It will include shorter multiple choice and numerical scale questions, as well as a small amount of longer text-based questions. Participation is voluntary. By continuing onto the survey, you are consenting to participating, but if you change your mind at any point during the study, you will be able to withdraw your participation without having to provide a reason.

The data that you provide (e.g. survey responses) will be stored by code number. Any information that identifies you will be stored separately from the data. You are free to withdraw from the study at any time during data collection and up to two weeks after the data is collected by contacting the researcher on the email address given below.

We will put in place appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data. Data will be stored on a password protected computer. Data will be fully anonymised after analysis is completed, two weeks after data collection. Anonymised data will be kept until Graduation, after which time it will be destroyed. The data that I collect (survey responses) may be used in anonymous format in different ways, e.g. publications, presentations and online.
Please note: if we gather information that raises concerns about your safety or the safety of others, or about other concerns as perceived by the researcher, the researcher may pass on this information to another person. Anonymised data may be used for future analysis and shared for research or training purposes. If you do not want your data to be included in any information shared as a result of this research, please do not sign the consent form.

If you have any questions about this information or concerns about how your data is being processed, please feel free to contact me, Niamh Burrows, by email ‘nb1307@york.ac.uk’, or the Chair of Ethics Committee via email ‘education-ethics@york.ac.uk’. If you are still dissatisfied, please contact the university’s Data Protection Officer at ‘dataprotection@york.ac.uk’. I hope that you will agree to take part. If you are happy for yourself to participate, please proceed to the survey on the next page. Thank you for taking the time to read this information.
